Kyle dreamed of being a farmer someday, and I just wanted a country house with chickens. After 3 years of searching, we finally found it in 2014! Once we moved in, the empty barn seemed sad, and someone or something needed to upkeep the land.
The coop had chickens within 3 months.
(We have had a free range flock of over 100 chickens for over 5 years now - chicken math!)
In March 2015, four little pigs had moved into the barn.
(We've had two litters of pigs on farm and raised hundreds)
Fall of 2016, we raised meat chickens.
(We've raised over a 1000 since then)
By spring 2017 our first bottle calf came home
with another to keep her company a few weeks later.
(We've raised lots of calves and milked 50 different cows since. We milk between 12-18 daily now)
Through it all we figured, if we were growing our own food, we might as well grow some for other people and The Little Red Farm naturally grew out of our heart to feed others the same way we wanted to feed our own family.
In spring of 2019 we started milking and our Farmers Market Shop was born.
We began with just our farm fresh beef, pork, eggs and milk as well as, small local vendors with things like handmade crafts and gifts, home decor and antiques.
We served 1300 customers that first year.
Now, over 5 years later, we still have our farm fresh meats, milk and eggs, but we also have maple syrup, honey, popcorn, herbs, and many other pantry items from small farms across the United States.
This past year we’ve served over 4,500 customers right from our Little Red Farm.
Did you know that out of all US farms 80% fail and shut down within 2 years?
And by the 5 year mark 95% of them are out of business?
Those are some steep statistics and we are grateful and proud that God has enabled us to beat the odds and still be going strong over 5 years in business.
We know there is always more to learn, but as you can see by those numbers, the odds are really stacked against you from the get go. That is a huge reason why we decided to start sharing the wisdom and hard earned lessons we've been through, in hopes that you don’t just survive on your homestead, but thrive!
Are you ready to build a life you love?
